“Being disciplined is simply not enough to get stuff done in life.”
Commitment to Focus
WeeklyMake a public commitment to improve your focus this week. Share your intention with a friend or on a social media platform.
Week 2: EJ's Past - The 'Yes' Man (and Opportunity Cost)
Learn from EJ's past mistakes of saying 'yes' to everything and not understanding the power of 'no,' linking this to opportunity cost.
EJ's 'Yes' Man Story
WeeklyWatch a clip of EJ discussing his past struggles with saying 'no' and how it impacted his focus.
“Not able to say no, saying yes to basically everything, not understanding that no is the first step to focus.”
Analyze Your Own 'Yes' Habits
WeeklyIdentify areas in your life where you tend to say 'yes' too often and the consequences of those decisions. Track these over the week.
“Not able to say no, saying yes to basically everything, not understanding that no is the first step to focus.”
Practice Saying 'No'
WeeklyIdentify a small request this week and practice saying 'no'. Note the difficulty and your feelings.
Week 3: The Realization - Excellence Takes Time (10-Year Rule)
Understand that achieving excellence takes time (at least a decade) and how focus plays a critical role in expediting that process.
EJ on the 10-Year Rule
WeeklyWatch EJ explain the importance of the 10-year rule and how it relates to focus.
“Everything great takes at least a decade to build.”
Define Your Excellence

“Everything great takes at least a decade to build.”
Share Your Vision
WeeklyShare your 10-year vision statement with the group to gain support and accountability.
Week 4: The New Principles - Saying 'No' and Simplifying (Triggers & Habit Stacking)
Learn and apply EJ's four key principles: Say No by default, The 10-Year Rule, Opportunity Cost, and Simplify. Use habit stacking to reinforce saying no.
Practice Saying 'No' (Habit Stacking)
WeeklyIdentify and decline one request or commitment that doesn't align with your goals. Stack this with a reward (positive reinforcement).
“Is this new thing that just got presented to me going to help me achieve my tomorrow's goals? If the answer is no I'm going to say no.”
Apply the 10-Year Rule (Implementation Intentions)
WeeklyEvaluate a current or potential relationship (personal or business) using the 10-year rule. Create an implementation intention for future decisions.
“Do I see myself spending time with this person or doing business with this person still in 10 years? If the answer is no... then I'm going to pass.”
Identify Opportunity Costs (Framing)
WeeklyList tasks you currently do that could be outsourced or delegated to free up your time for higher-value activities. Frame the benefits in terms of potential gains.
“What's the opportunity cost? Hire somebody else to do it and then...”
Simplify Your Calendar (Time Blocking)
WeeklyCreate a simplified, time-blocked calendar to allocate time for different focus areas. Set reminders to protect your time blocks.
“Simplify complex is easy, simple is hard. That's just the way it goes.”
