Understanding the Power of Perspective

Explore the core concept that it's not what happens to us, but how we *see* it that matters. Analyze your own perspectives on common events. This module introduces the concept of cognitive restructuring, a key technique in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).

The $100 Exercise

Daily

Consider the $100 bill example. How do *you* perceive it? What immediate thoughts and feelings arise?

It doesn't matter what we're looking at it matters what we see.

Daily Perspective Journaling

Daily

Each day, journal about an event that occurred and explore your initial reaction. Then, challenge that reaction. What other perspectives are possible? This activity is based on cognitive restructuring principles.

This analogy goes for the spectrum of life's events.

Taking 100% Responsibility

Embrace the idea of taking full responsibility for your reactions. This doesn't mean denying feelings, but consciously shaping your response and integration. This module is focused on empowerment and self-efficacy.

Spotting Victim Mentality

Daily

Reflect on past situations. Where have you fallen into a 'victim' mentality? What were the thoughts and feelings associated with it?

We can be a person who blames other people for our unfavorable circumstances and bemoan why do these things always happen to me and stay in a victim mentality

Daily Reframing Practice

Daily

Actively reframe a negative thought or situation each day. Focus on finding the lesson, opportunity for growth, or a more empowering perspective. This is an example of cognitive restructuring.

Why would we not choose to make the best out of a bad hand to find the lesson in a negative event or to see any failure as an opportunity to learn grow and as a necessary step on the way to success
